Mosses are in the division Bryophyta- the non vascular plants.Other nonvascular plants are liverworts and hornworts. Nonvascular plants do not have xylems and phloems- which are connective tissue that transport water and nutrients quickly.Because they don't have vascular tissue Mosses don't have roots, stems, or leaves. So what do they have?
1.Leaflike Scales- in which photosynthesis occurs
2.Stemlike Structures.
3.Rhizoids- root like hairs.
These structures make Mosses pretty interesting
-Number one the Rhizoids( the root like hairs) don't absorb water
-Number two after being dried out, moses can "come alive" if given water.
-Number three the sex life is quite bizarre...
So lets enter the sex cycle of the moss. We must remember that Moss is closely related to Algae- the most primitive plant. Algae survives in water. Moses themselves don't survive in water, but their sperm do. Archegonium a vaselike structure in which the egg is kept.
Antheridium is where it is produced.
