1. They have extensive root systems that allow them to draw water from the earth.
2. Their roots and stems are capable of secondary growth-the rings around the trees.

4. They are able to fertilize without water since the pollen grains are able to directly fertilize the gametophye through the pollen tube.
5. The development of waterproof seeds, which allow the seeds to survive in harsh conditions and dormant conditions.
Gymnosperms include ginkos,cycads,gnetophytes, and conifers.
